Boil order lifted for much of Beatrice

A boil order was lifted for most Beatrice water customers Monday afternoon after water samples came back negative, Water Superintendent Steve Kelley said.

However, customers within the area of Elk Street to the Big Blue River between First and 19th streets are asked to continue to boil water, Kelley said. The area has to be retested after one of the 100 samples came back positive.

He said five samples from the area would need to be taken Monday and five more would need to be taken Tuesday. The earliest the boil order for that area could be lifted would be Wednesday, he said.

Beatrice customers served by the north water tower were placed under a boil order Friday evening after a water main break occurred near the north pump house at Fourth and Grant streets.

Thanks to all of the Water Department employees that spend much (if not all) of Friday night working to repair the break. We appreciate it!

Last fourth of July I had my family holiday here, NO ELECTRICITY, NO AIR CONDITIONING NO STOVE. Last Easter big family celebration here NO GAS, NO HOT WATER, NO HEAT. First long visit from grankids since school is out staying untill the fourth, NO GOOD WATER, BOIL ORDER. I had drug dealers living across the street for two years. People on the corner for a year where 15 teenagers hung out and made incredible amounts of noise night and day but let your grass get 2 inches long and they're on the job.

Tested positive for what? I was sick as a dog after visiting last weekend.

To Bob - I know of several people who drank the water WITHOUT boiling it and they didn't get sick. Trying to find someone or something else to blame your illness on?????
Get Over It

Get over it Kate, I don't remember any outages last year on the 4th and we also had a huge family gathering.
A water main breaking isn't the fault of the city---it just happens and they can't predict when it will. The city worked as fast as they could to get it fixed.
As for your loud teenage neighbors and the drug dealers accross the street---the police will do something about it if they can. Get it on video---we had issue's near our house and the police were very responsive every time we called. Eventually they were caught.

Maybe you should be taught how to read the calendar. The all safe notice for the water was issued on July 2nd two days before your 4th of July gathering and it may of been June 30th depending on where you lived.

I finally feel safe now thanks to BPW. I filled the kids pool yesterday and now I have happy kids.
