A rural Plymouth man was taken to a Lincoln hospital after he sustained injuries when his pick-up truck was struck by a Union Pacific train Sunday night.
Rolland W. Moellenberndt III, 35 was taken to a Lincoln hospital by StarCareV after he sustained injuries when his Chevrolet S10 pickup truck was struck by an eastbound Union Pacific coal train at Nebraska Highway 8 and 708 Road late Sunday night, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Moellenberndt was extricated from his truck by Jefferson County Rescue and Jefferson County Ambulance District #33 and transported to Jefferson Community Health Center. He was later taken to Lincoln.
Seatbelts were not in use and alcohol is suspected to be a factor, according to deputies.
The truck was totaled and the train had minor damage.
Steele City Rural Fire, Fairbury Rural Fire, Fairbury City Fire, Jefferson County Rescue, Jefferson County Ambulance District #33 and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
