In response to late donations, the deadline to drop off items for the Gage County Museum’s time capsule to be opened in 2057 as part of Beatrice’s 200th anniversary celebration has been changed to Wednesday, July 9, Lesa Arterburn, museum director, said.
The deadline had been Thursday.
“We’ve had some people who wanted to give at the last minute, so we decided just to extend the deadline,” she said.
She said the Boy Scouts was donating a shirt, while the museum had received a number of business cards.
She also said the museum would like to get “fad” items, such as clothing, that say “2007.”
After the items are collected, the time capsule, the same one used for the city’s 1957 centennial celebration and opened last year, will be sealed and buried on the museum grounds. It will then be opened again on July 4, 2057.
