Dr. Michael L. Buess, 58, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at his home in Alexandria, Va. He was born January 11, 1950, to Dallas and Mildred (Gaisford) Buess in Beatrice, Neb.

He graduated from Beatrice High School, Wesleyan University and received his Ph.D. in Physics at Brown University in Rhode Island. Although he was not in the Navy, he worked at the Naval Research Lab in Washington, D.C., for many years. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He liked to watch sports and work with his computer.

He is survived by his parents, Dallas and Mildred Buess; brothers, Wesley Buess of Beatrice and Charles Buess and wife, Laurie, of Wymore; sister, Pamela Hormandl and husband, Ron, of Lincoln; two nephews, Daniel and Matthew Hormandl of Lincoln; aunt, Marilyn Loper of Beatrice; cousins; and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Elmer and Margret Buess and Wm. and Ethel Gaisford; uncles, Floyd Gaisford and wife, Florence, and Willard Loper; aunts, Faye Kuper and husband, Dave; Ruth Nickeson and husband, Virgil.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at the Harman-Wright Mortuary Chapel, Seventh and Elk streets, Beatrice, with Pastor Gil Karges officiating. Inurnment will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery, Diller, Neb. The family will greet friends Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Memorials established to The Salvation Army Disaster Relief Fund with the mortuary in charge.
