Charles E. “Buzz” Rickman

Charles E. “Buzz” Rickman, 76, of Beatrice, died at Homestead House in Beatrice on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. He was born on September 20, 1931, at Crab Orchard and graduated from Lewiston High School.

He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, from 1951 to 1955. He was married to Lois M. Weyers on September 25, 1952, at Sterling and they farmed near Crab Orchard until moving to Beatrice in 1980. He then worked at Store Kraft Manufacturing for 14 years. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice. He was also a member of the Bitting-Norman Post 27 of the American Legion and a member of the Pawnee Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture, going to auctions, fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Beatrice; one daughter, Teresa Schoen and husband Randy of Hickman; one son, Mark Rickman of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Brian Schoen and wife Jeanne of Beatrice and Jessica Werman and husband Nick of Seward; one great-grandson, Garrett Schoen; two sisters, Willa Rabstejnek of Table Rock and Mary Lou Davison and husband Dave of Tecumseh; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles N. and Orba Abbott Rickman; two brothers, Jay and Lou Rickman.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2008, at the Fox Funeral Home, 19th and Garfield streets, Beatrice, with the Rev. David A. Bigley officiating. Burial will be in the Crab Orchard Cemetery of Crab Orchard. A memorial has been established to the Relay for Life with the Fox Funeral Home in charge. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Bitting-Norman Post 27 of the American Legion of Beatrice. The body will lie in state at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice until time of services on Saturday.
