Flossie E. Mercer, 68, Beatrice, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center, Lincoln, Neb. She was born August 31, 1939, at Lakawana, N.Y.

She married Kendall Mercer on June 10, 1961. They live in Manchester by the Sea, Mass., and Dallas, Texas, before moving to McLaughlin, S.D., where they lived for 10 years. While there, she taught kindergarten and first grade before moving to Beatrice in January of 1977. She operated a day care out of her home for over 30 years. She was a member of the Westside Baptist Church, Beatrice, and a life-long member of the Christian Women’s Club. She loved being a pastor’s wife and was a very giving person. She loved her children, grandchildren, feeding birds, gardening, flowers, traveling and camping.

She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Vondenkamp and husband Mike of Marion, Kan., Lori Wohlers and husband Robin of West Palm Beach, Fla.; son, Scott Mercer and Anna Baginski of Lincoln, Neb.; 5 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jared and Jacob Vondenkamp of Marion, Kan., Joshua and Ryan Wohlers of West Palm Beach, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Kendall Mercer; parents; and brother, Fred.

Funeral will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008, at the Westside Baptist Church, Beatrice, with Pastor Jon Palmquist and Pastor Jack Magness, officiating. Family prayer service 9:45 a.m. Saturday in the church basement. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice, Neb. The body will lie in state at the Harman-Wright Mortuary, Seventh and Elk streets, Beatrice, 2 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday, and one hour preceding the services at the church. Memorials established to the Westside Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society with the mortuary in charge.
