Patricia M. Cripe, 90, of Beatrice, died Thursday evening, July 3, 2008, at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Center. She was born February 25, 1918, at rural Liberty and was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wymore.

She attended Union Center School near Liberty. She was married to Wayne E. Cripe on January 16, 1936, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wymore and they made Wymore and Little River, Kansas, their home until moving to Beatrice in 1955. She worked at Wilke Bakery for several years and then at the Beatrice State Developmental Center in the food service department for 15 years before retiring in 1984. She attended Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include one son, Eugene R. Cripe of Beatrice; three daughters, Delores Scaggs and husband Jerry of Lincoln, Carol Vrtiska and husband Mike of Beatrice and Linda Essam and husband Dick of Livingston, Louisiana; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Teckla Glombitza Mooney; her husband Wayne who died on January 11, 1993; one daughter-in-law Janet Cripe; two sisters, Kathleen Merklinger and Eva Roszell; and three brothers, John, James and Vincent Mooney; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Rev. Cindy Karges officiating. Burial will be at the Blue Springs Cemetery of Blue Springs, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Make-A-Wish Foundation with the funeral home in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from Sunday noon until the time of the service on Tuesday.
