Adams Juniors win Ashland tourney, run record to 21-0

ASHLAND - Adams American Legion Juniors recently improved their record to 21-0 and won the Ashland Tournament.

In action at Ashland, Adams won its first game 12-2 over Nehawka.

Jordan Pella was the winning pitcher, allowing one earned run in four innings, while striking out nine.

Eric Rapp and Pella led the way at the plate with two hits and two RBI each.

In their second game, the Adams Juniors downed Sutton, 11-3.

Austin Magill earned the win, giving up four hits in 5 1/3 innings and striking out six.

Zack Lempka and Jake Saathoff paced Adams at the plate with two hits each and a combined seven RBI.

In its third game, Adams downed Arlington, 16-0, on the 10-run rule.

Lempka threw the win for Adams, striking out five in four innings.

Matt Nieveen paced Adams at the plate with four hits and four RBI. Saathoff added two hits and three RBI.

In the championship game, Adams downed Hebron, 14-10.

Pella earned the win in relief of starter Elliott Mencl. He threw the final three innings, allowing one earned run and striking out three.

Pella led the plate attack with three hits, while Lempka and Jimmy Seward added two each.

In other recent action, the Adams Juniors defeated Lincoln Lutheran, 12-1, on the 10-run rule in five innings and downed Hebron, 12-8.

Against Lincoln Lutheran, Mencl earned the win on the mound.

Mencl and Jake Wirthele both went 3-for-3 at the plate.

At Hebron, Mencl earned the win in relief.

Wirthele had three hits, while Mencl and Lempka added two each.
