HANOVER, Kan. - Hanover’s Lady Wildcats went 3-1 Saturday, finishing in a second-place tie at their own invitational.
The Lady Wildcats opened with a 25-14, 25-18 loss to Glasco-Southern Cloud, but came back to win their next three matches.
Hanover defeated Junction City-St. Xavier, 25-14, 25-15; Wakefield, 18-25, 25-17, 26-24; and Scandia-Pike Valley, 23-25, 25-8, 25-23.
Lady Wildcat coach Shannon Searcey-Bussman said the team came out “really slow” against Southern Cloud.
“Our serves were bad, our passing was bad, there were a lot of inconsistencies,” Searcey-Bussman said.
Searcey-Bussman said the Lady Wildcats should have competed better against Southern Cloud.
Later, the Lady Wildcat turned things around, however, winning three-straight matches.
“The matches against Wakefield and Pike Valley were great,” Searcey-Bussman said. “The girls were super aggressive at the net, which was helped by our improved passing and defense.”
Searcey-Bussman said it was the Hanover seniors last time to play on their home court and they wanted to end on a good note.
For the tournament, Allison Bruna led Hanover in kills with 22, while Michelle Bruna had 21, Shelby Jueneman had 19 and Kendra Zabokrtsky had 16.
Zabokrtsky also had a team-high five ace blocks.
Next action for Hanover will be tonight (Tuesday) at the Linn triangular.
