It's a small word with a big meaning. The things that I love are the things that matter most to me, & the things that I always make time for no matter what.
Who do I love? Well, my God, my husband, my children, my family, & my friends come to mind quickly.
What do I love? Date nights with my hubby, spending time with close friends, reading a good book, cooking a special meal or dessert, & enjoying a delicious cup of coffee (preferably while watching the snow fall or during a thunderstorm).
Hmm...Am I missing anything?
What about myself?
You see, even though I would certainly say that I love myself, my actions don't quite match up to my words. Up until four short weeks ago when this fitness challenge first began, I really didn't make myself a priority in my life. So, naturally, I didn't make my health or fitness priorities either. I had a lot of good excuses not to, mind you, - a husband & five small children to care for, a large home to clean, never-ending chores to tackle, & so on & so forth.
But you see, that's not really loving myself, is it?
You can't really love something that you're not willing to make the time & energy to care for, can you?
Sure, like me, you may never be able to afford a gym membership or have hours a day to dedicate to exercising. Also, like me, you may never be able to swear off desserts entirely or learn to love to eat everything that's healthy for you.
But you know what you can do?
You can start. You can do something. Just like I did four weeks ago. You can YouTube short workout videos that you can do in your very own living room with absolutely no equipment. You can turn off the TV, put down the smart phone and move more. You can substitute some unhealthy foods for healthier options. You can incorporate more fruits & veggies into your diet. You can drink more water. You can do something. And if you stick with it, it WILL pay off. You will start to see results and you will feel better. Just like me.
I'm now a quarter of the way through this challenge and feeling better and stronger than ever. I have lots more energy and endurance then ever before. And I look and feel a lot better in my clothes. If I can do it, then so can you. You don't need a fancy gym or trainer to do it and you definitely don't need to wait for next year's fitness challenge to get started.
When thinking of things you love, don't leave yourself off the list, like I once did. Make time for yourself and your health, so that you can better take care of everything else on your list too.
