The Beatrice Community Band is kicking off its first of four summer concerts this Sunday at the Tabernacle in Chautauqua Park at 7 p.m.
The band formally the Gage County Historical Society Band is now under the umbrella of the Beatrice Arts Council.
The change allows the band to be its own nonprofit similar to the Beatrice Regional Orchestra.
Members can now fundraise for their own conductor and expand the program.
“It makes us more of an independent group,” band contact Kevin Boesiger said.
He added that he wanted to thank the Gage County Historical Society for its support of the band for the last 18 years.
This year’s band director is Dick Marolf. He has been a band director at Norris, Lincoln Northeast, Lefler Middle School and Dawes Middle School.
Concerts are scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Tabernacle in Chautauqua Park:
June 16: “Across the Pond” English, Scottish and Irish songs.
June 30: “All American” patriotic songs.
July 14: “Night at the Movies.”
July 28:. “Little of this and Little of that” a mix of music from the Beatrice High School library.
The band is open to anyone from the surrounding area. Boesiger said anyone interested in joining can still join by contacting one of the four band’s board of directors: Chris Lindell, Cheryl Rabstejnek, Carol Bradley or Carissa Hoops.
The band rehearses every Tuesday night in the BHS band room.
