A Beatrice woman who was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of stealing more than $57,000 from a local business has been formally arraigned on charges related to the theft.
Jami L. Grabouski, 48, 1321 S. Fifth St., was arraigned Tuesday on one count of theft by taking (more than $1,500), a Class III felony. The charge alleges Grabouski stole $57,517.75 from Jet Racing in Beatrice by transferring money from the business to various personal accounts from Jan. 21, 2006, to Dec. 18. Grabouski’s next court appearance will be 9 a.m. Jan. 24.
Court documents indicate Grabouski allegedly wrote 36 checks on the Jet Racing account. Of those, 21 were written to credit card or loan offices and 11 sender were written to family members of Grabouski or to financial institutions that do not conduct business with the owner of Jet Racing.
Grabouski was previously convicted in 2003 on three misdemeanor counts of theft of money from First Presbyterian Church in Beatrice where she worked as a secretary from August 1999 to Feb. 27, 2003. She was sentenced to one year in prison on each count with each sentence to run concurrently. Grabouski was released on Feb. 25, 2004.
