Bond has been set at $25,000 for a man accused of robbing a Beatrice bank on Monday.
Terry L. Bailes, 54, was arrested Monday on suspicion of robbing Great Western Bank at 10th and Court streets.
The robbery was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m., and Bailes was apprehended around a block away within five minutes.
Bailes put his hands up when approached by authorities and told police he was the one they were looking for, according to Gage County Court documents. After being cuffed, he allegedly told police it was better than being homeless and asked if the offense was a felony.
Police said Bailes left the bank with a small amount of money, and multiple people matching the description provided by bank workers were approached before it was determined Bailes was the suspect.
Court documents indicated Bailes left the bank with $10, and purchased cigarettes before being arrested.
Bank workers said Bailes had his hand in a pocket, but never displayed a weapon. Police do not believe he had a weapon at the time of the robbery.
Beatrice Middle School went into a lockdown for about 10 minutes after the robbery was reported.
Bailes’ next hearing is set for Nov. 21.
