If weather forecasts are correct, Beatrice Public Schools will be looking at another snow day this week.
The National weather Service predicts significant snowfall Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
But all that snow day joy will mean another day added to school.
“If we miss more, we will have to make it up,” BPS interim superintendent Dr. Roy Baker said.
The scheduled last day of school for students is Friday, May 24. The calendar has the following weekdays marked as possible school makeup days for wintery weather or state competitions.
“To that extent it was built into the calendar, but I always prefer to schedule the last day to be later. Then if you didn’t need it, take it off the end,” Baker said. “It is just a psychological difference.”
The calendar committee built 2013-2014 school year’s calendar the same way. If makeup days are needed, they will be added to the end of the year.
Seniors will not be affected by the snow days. The seniors' last day is May 16.
If the Beatrice High School girls basketball team’s state tournament games cause a day out of school, the day or days will also be added to end of the school year.
BPS students might want to hold off on counting the days until the end of school and instead count on more.
