DILLER -- Just a few weeks ago Jessica Nabity, then Jessica Holtmeier, watched as friends and family planned a wedding in less than a week for her.
When she returned from her honeymoon in Kansas City this month, she made sure to do one thing for her family, plan her own funeral.
Nabity, 36, died early Monday morning at her parent’s home outside Diller after a battle with cancer.
“She didn’t want anyone else to have to do it,” Jessica’s mother, Linda Holtmeier said. “She apologized to us all the time for her putting us through this and we said you know it is not her fault. That’s just the way she is.”
Nabity began feeling sick in August of last year. She received chemotherapy treatments after visiting the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where doctors diagnosed her with small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma.
Early this month, x-rays revealed that Nabity had multiple tumors on her liver and her lungs and a mass on her abdomen. Doctors gave just a few weeks to live.
After receiving the news, she and her fiancé, Paul Nabity, decided to move their wedding to the following weekend. The couple married Jan. 11 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Diller.
Holtmeier said her daughter spent her last days planning her funeral and visiting with friends and family including her two sisters, niece and nephews.
“She was a very loving strong courageous person up until the very end,” Holtmeier said.
Her sister Sara Lucking added that Nabity who was energetic and "full of life" around others.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Diller. Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Diller.
