American Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary met on Jan. 8, with President Loree Dienstbier presiding over the meeting. Chaplain Linda Sturgill gave the opening prayer and led the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem. Roll call revealed six officers present and three absent.
Marian Melcher presented the "National Good Deed Award" to Ethan Buss, who is 10 years old and in the fourth grade. He raised more than $5,500 for the Red Cross to help families in need.
There are 194 members paid to date for 2018. Seven memorial wreaths were given and three funeral luncheons were served. Christmas cards were sent to shut-in veterans in Beatrice. Donation to the Community Food Pantry totaled 20 items and $493 from members and the Auxiliary.
Letters of thanks were read for donations given last month. A letter from the department was shared with members. The mid-year conference will be held on Jan. 12-14 in North Platte.
The first chicken supper of the year will take place on Jan. 24, serving from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited. The American Legion's 99th birthday dinner is scheduled for March 11, with a social hour beginning at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Reservations are required by invited guests.
The next meeting will be held on Feb. 12. Members may meet at 6:30 p.m. for supper prior to the 7:30 p.m. meeting. Hostesses will be Faye Hagan and Carolyn Junker. Members are asked to wear red, white and/or blue in honor of Americanism/patriotism month. Dorothy Trauernicht will serve as chairman for the program.
