Dorothy K. Huls
Dorothy K. Huls, 96, of Beatrice, and formerly of Cortland, died Monday night, Jan. 29, 2018 at Beatrice Good Samaritan Center. She was born on Feb. 4, 1921 to Herman and Sophie (Damkroger) Siems at DeWitt. She attended school in DeWitt and graduated from DeWitt High School. She attended Peru State Teachers College and taught rural schools for five years and then worked two years at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. She married Ralph Huls on Oct. 10, 1945 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of rural DeWitt after he returned from WWII. They lived on a farm near Cortland until Jan. 19, 2013 when they moved to Beatrice. They were blessed with four children, June, Randy, Rick and Jeanette. Dorothy was a very active member of Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. Dorothy's love of teaching touched many young lives from her years of teaching Sunday School and Confirmation, to tutoring many years in Beatrice. Family gatherings were a special part of her life. She also enjoyed traveling and writing poetry, short stories and family history.
Survivors include one daughter, June Boesiger of Lincoln; two sons, Randy (Laurie) Huls of Cortland and Rick (Beth) Huls of Belmont, Mich.; her son-in-law, Mark (Barbara) Schultz of Lincoln; her grandchildren, Jody Konz and friend, Troy Alexander, Darin (Carrie) Boesiger, Jessica (Mike) Larson, Melissa (Ryan) Kohn, Blake (Bailey) Huls, Ryan Huls and Natalie Huls; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ruby Huls; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph, who died on May 6, 2014; her daughter, Jeanette Schultz; her brothers, Elmer, Lorenz and Art Siems; and her sisters, Martha Schroeder, Elsie Brinkmeyer and Laura Germer.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell, with Pastor Heather Brown officiating. Burial will be at the Christ Lutheran Cemetery. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the 125th anniversary of Christ Lutheran Church and Christ Lutheran Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Fox Funeral Home from 8 a.m. Thursday until 9 p.m. Friday, and at the church for one hour preceding the service on Saturday.
