Drae William James Swarthout, 24, of Beatrice died on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018 at the Jefferson Community Health Center in Fairbury. He was born on Aug. 13, 1993 in Hebron.
Drae lived in Evanston, Wyo., Fairbury and currently lived in Beatrice. He served in the U.S. Army from October 2012 to March 2016 in the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Ft. Lewis, Wash. and then the 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, N.C. Drae worked for Twin Rivers Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge and Ashley Home Center in Beatrice. He loved to hunt, fish, shoot guns, ride motorcycles and have fun.
Survivors include his dad and step-mom, Steven and Jenny Swarthout of Beatrice; his mother, Brandy Swarthout of Georgia; his half-sister, Destinie Swarthout of Georgia; his step-brothers, Jacob and Jackson Collins; his step-sisters, Alexis and Avery Collins; his uncle, Mark Swarthout and Teresa Kagy of Beatrice; his cousin, Eean Swarthout of Beatrice; his special friend, Brittainy Lee of Missouri; his grandmothers, Judy Wagner of Lewiston and Loretta Swarthout of Mitchell, S.D.; his grandparents, Stan and Judy Meyer of Beatrice; and his great-aunt, Dee Nicholson-Waltke of Fairbury.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Bill Swarthout; his grandmother, Charlotte Swarthout; and his cousin, Damon Swarthout.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Christ Community Church in Beatrice. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018, with the family greeting friends from 6-7 p.m. at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Military Honors will be conducted by Bitting-Norman American Legion Post 27 and the National Guard Honor Guard.
