Edward “Ed” J. Jungck

Hastings resident, Edward “Ed” J. Jungck, 89, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, Neb.

Services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church of Hastings, with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial will be on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the Fairbury Cemetery in Fairbury. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Visitation will take place on Monday, Oct. 2, 2017 from 1–8 p.m., with family present from 6–8 p.m. at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to service at the church. Private condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.

Ed was born on Aug. 11, 1928 in Chester, Neb. to Arthur H. and Alice C. (Wessel) Jungck. He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1947. Ed served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees, where he was involved in naval construction from September 1950 to July 1954. He married Phyllis J. Workman on July 19, 1952, in Beatrice, Neb.; she preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 2008.

Ed worked for LT&T, where he had numerous positions over 44 years and retired as a supervisor. He also farmed for Jack Halloran for over 40 years. Ed was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the Elks for 32 years, the American Legion, he was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and participated in the Chamber of Commerce in Sutton, Neb. Ed was very involved with sports since his high school days. He excelled at football, basketball and track. Later, he enjoyed watching football, baseball and any sporting event. Ed was an avid Husker fan and enjoyed bowling.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis J. Jungck; son, Steven E. Jungck; and brother, Marion “Gus” Jungck.

Survivors include his son with spouse, Thomas and Jennifer Jungck of Hastings; his daughter-in-law, Joline Jungck of North Platte; his grandchildren with their spouses, Staci Jungck and Jimmy Soto of North Platte, Erin Jungck of North Platte, Jessica and Mike Rohan of Hastings, Jamie and Steven Thomas of Hastings and Jackie and Mike Bryce of Wood River, Neb.; his great-grandchildren, Bailey, Avery, Jacob, Madison, Alex, Maggie and Cameron; his best friend, June Kehn of Hastings; his sisters-in-law, Sharon Jungck of Fort Worth, Texas and Areta Doyle of Beatrice; and numerous nieces and nephews.
