Harry A. Milke
Harry A. Milke, 98, of Beatrice died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017 at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Society. He was born July 22, 1919 in Beatrice to Frank and Grace (Neuman) Milke. He attended Beatrice Public Schools, later served in the Nebraska National Guard, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Naval Reserves. Harry married Dorothy Beard on Aug. 12, 1939 in Marysville, Kan., and after her death in 1991, he married Regina Knoche in December of 1992. He worked 44 years at Hoover Steel Tank, 8 1/2 years for Gage Co. Ambulance Service, 21 years at Carstens Garden and part-time for Harman-Wright Mortuary. Harry was a past Beatrice City Council Member, was on the Volunteer Fire Dept. for 27 years and was a past president. He helped with Boy Scouts for 17 years and was an assistant scout master for Troop 221. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion Post 27 and the Elks Club, all of Beatrice. Harry was a past member of the First Christian Church of Beatrice, serving on Building and Grounds Committee and was a deacon. He was a present member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beatrice.
Survivors include his son, Jerry Milke and wife, Ardys, of Beatrice; granddaughter, Jennifer Schultz and husband, Michael, of Raymond, Neb.; grandson, Kevin Milke of Beatrice; granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Milke of Beatrice; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Julia Schultz, Brittany, Tyler and Bryce Milke; and nieces and nephews.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy (1991); his second wife, Regina (2004); as well as his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. John Duling officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Harman-Wright Mortuary of Beatrice, and at the church for one hour preceding the services.
