John F. Barnard
John F. Barnard, 90 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at the Premier Estates in Pawnee City on Monday afternoon, Oct. 9, 2017. He was born on June 11, 1927 in Beatrice to John and Hettie (Fisher) Barnard, and was a 1945 graduate of Beatrice High School. John served his country in the United States Navy from June 29, 1945 until March 20, 1946 and served in the Air Force Reserves for six months in 1955. John and Joan Higgins were married on Feb. 12, 1950 in Beatrice, and John lived and farmed in the Beatrice area most of his life. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 27 in Beatrice.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda Totsch with husband, Ron of Kansas City; his sons, Gail Barnard with wife, Diane of Beatrice and Michael Barnard with wife, Lori of Iuka, Miss.; as well as six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hettie (Fisher) Barnard; his wife, Joan (2016); and his brothers, Roy, Ralph and Merle Barnard.
Private family graveside services will be held on Saturday at the Evergreen Home Cemetery, with Father Robert Barnhill officiating and with the United States Navy providing military graveside services. Public visitation will be held on Thursday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice.
