Larry “Taz” Halte, born Oct. 4, 1950, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Roosevelt, Ariz., on Jan. 18, 2013. He was 62.

His memory lives on in the hearts of his family: mother Doris Halte; sister Tammy Schneider; daughter and son-in-law Valdavia and Rick Dodge; wayward son, Zachary “Cory” Moore; three grandchildren, Collin, Erica and Zoe; cousins Steve and Shirley Phillipi; nephews Nathan and Matthew and niece Jessica.

He also had three very beloved cats, Dog, Izzy and Pepper. Taz was a fantastic friend, good son and brother, wonderful father and grandfather. He had a large number of very good friends, some dating back to the time when Christ was riding a pony. He was a Veteran and very proud of his military career, which included the Marines and the Army. He was a member of the American Legion and the NRA.

Born in Hebron Neb., he grew up in Beatrice and Hastings, Neb. Married in 1973 to Cathy Higgins, they divorced a few years later. Taz decided that remarriage was not going to be agreeable to him and remained a bona fide bachelor till the end of his days. He spent many years as a truck driver, working and managing kitchens and even swung a hammer for a local construction company for a while. He officially “retired” in the summer of 2011 and moved back to Arizona, a place that was very dear to him.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his friends, keeping up on current events, cultivating his medicinal marijuana, cooking and baking, staying in close contact with his family and friends in Nebraska, maintaining and using his gun collection, enjoying rolled ones and cold ones, lavishing attention on his pets, hoarding boxes and skillets and when he was so inclined, chasing short, round, large breasted women.

Taz will be dearly missed, but hopefully he is having a good time up there, somewhere catching up with Duane Halte, Sandy Halte, John Hespen, Sue Morgan and other family members and friends that beat him to the Pearly Gates. While Taz liked flowers and plants as much as the next burly guy, he would rather have you donate generously to The Cat House in Lincoln, Neb., or your local animal shelter in his memory.

A Grand Celebration of Life will be held on Feb. 2, 2013, at the V.F.W. Post 3113, 2337 N. K St Fairbury, NE 68352 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
