Mary Ann E. Stohs

Mary Ann Emily Stohs, 85, of Beatrice died Friday Jan. 26, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln. She was born Oct. 27, 1932 near Hanover, Kan. She was baptized and confirmed in a Lutheran church.

Mary Ann married Ivan Stohs on Aug. 16, 1953. They farmed by Bremen for a short time, then moved to Beatrice. Mary Ann was employed by Bremen Farmers Insurance Co. before her marriage. In Beatrice, she worked for a short time at Croy's Drive Inn, for Fidelity Finance for several years and at St. Paul Lutheran Church as office manager for years until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul and served as treasurer for many years. She was a member of the Ladies Aid, Dorcas, Social Club, choir and taught Sunday School. After retiring, she volunteered for Orphan Grain Train and the Beatrice Senior Center. Mary Ann enjoyed her family and friends, she loved cooking, playing cards, square dancing, camping and she enjoyed music.

Survivors include her husband, Ivan; her son, Terry Stohs of Gretna, Neb.; her daughters, Lori (Van) Shotzman of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Shari (Terry) Brauch of Beatrice; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Gladys Ehm and Dorothy Meyer; her brother-in-law, Marvin Beckman; her special friends, Peggy Stohs and Jennifer Rivera; and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Meyer; her brother, Roger Meyer; her parents-in-law, Emil and Frieda Stohs; her sisters-in-law, Nadine Stohs, Lucinda Beckmann and Velora Stohs; her brothers-in-law, Gerhard and wife, Ethel Stohs, Clifford and wife, Lyla Stohs and Merlin and wife, Geraldine Stohs.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Beatrice, with the Rev. Dr. Dirk Reek officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday in the church basement. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. The body will also lie in state for one hour preceding the services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice, with the mortuary in charge.
