Mary Virginia Ratigan “Molly Malone,” 83, of Beatrice, passed away June 23, 2012, at her home in Beatrice, surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 20, 1928, in Omaha to Paul and Aileen Malone.

She grew up in Omaha and graduated from Holy Name High School, and attended Duchesne College. Molly was married Aug. 27, 1955, to Gerald L. Ratigan, also of Omaha, and they raised three children together.

Molly worked alongside her husband in his business endeavors over the years, and in 1991 she and Gerald moved to Beatrice.

For 17 years, Molly was the Secretary/Treasurer for Ratigan Schottler Manufacturing, a church furniture manufacturing company in Beatrice.

Molly was a lifelong singer with a beautiful voice. She greatly enjoyed classical music and jazz and loved dancing with her husband.

She was the musical director for years for St. Elizabeth's Catholic church in Carlisle, Iowa, and did many hours of volunteer work for her church including teaching CCD and taking care of the alter linens and flowers, and as an advocate for the elderly at the local nursing home.

Molly was a strong Catholic, who fervently practiced and lived her faith. She is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beatrice.

Molly had a strong lifelong interest in politics and current events and was politically active. Molly was an avid gardener, a great fisherman, an animal lover, a wonderful cook (especially her homemade raisin nut bread) and a good sport.

She made every holiday and celebration truly special, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a truly kind and loving person who always put others first, and with her sharp wit and good nature was great company.

She touched the lives of everyone she met in a positive way, and was much loved. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Molly is survived by her husband, Gerald; her daughters, Kate Ratigan and husband, Ray Arter, and Eileen Ratigan, and by her son, Pat Ratigan, and his wife, Mary, all of Beatrice; five grandchildren; brothers, Ryan Ratigan of Omaha, and Devin Ratigan of Savannah, Ga.; and sister, Cara Ratigan, of Kansas City, Mo.; brother and sister, Clare and Liam Arter, of Beatrice; brothers, Mike Malone of Glenwood, Iowa, Terry Malone of Houston, and Dan Malone of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Aileen Malone, and her sister, Patricia Ponec.

The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beatrice, with Father Steve Major and Father Mc Cambridge officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Beatrice.

The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice. There will be a rosary prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Griffith's Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice.
