Robert 'Bob' J. Landen
Robert “Bob” J. Landen, 94 years of age, of Beatrice passed away Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017 at Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation in Beatrice. He was born on March 18, 1923 in Albion to Walter and Iva (Watson) Landen. Bob was baptized and confirmed at the Salem Lutheran Church of rural St. Edward. He attended country school and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1940. He married Dorothy Ann Fisher of St. Edward on July 2, 1944 at the First Lutheran Church in Omaha.
Bob was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Army in the Philippine Islands from 1945-1946. After his discharge from the Army in 1946, he moved to Albion with his wife, Dorothy, and daughter, Lynnette, and went to work for Consumers Public Power. In 1951, Bob started Landen Electric and TV with his brother, Jack, in Albion, where they sold and serviced appliances and televisions, as well as doing residential and commercial electrical work. He sold out in 1959 and went back to work for Consumers Public Power in Chadron. Consumers Public Power eventually merged with Nebraska Public Power District and, in 1962, he was promoted to District Energy Manager in Beatrice, where he worked until retiring in 1987, after a total of 33 years with Consumers Public Power and NPPD.
Bob was a former Beatrice City Councilman and a former Board of Adjustment member. He was a member of Hidden Acres Golf Course and served many years on the Board of Directors. Bob was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 27, VFW Post 1077, Beatrice Eagles Aerie 531 and a former member of the Beatrice Elks Club, Kiwanis Club and Chamber of Commerce. He loved woodworking, bowling and golfing, but not as much as he loved spending time with all the family.
Bob is survived by a daughter, Lynnette “Lonie” Reiff with husband, Lynn, of Beatrice; his son, Terry with wife, Susan, of Lincoln; his grandson, Shawn Reiff; and his great-grandsons, Grant and Hunter of Beatrice; his granddaughter, Heidi (Landen) Harris-Scarrow with husband, Paul; and great-grandchildren, Colin Harris and Mallory Scarrow, all of Lincoln; his sisters, Korrine Bailey of Englewood, Colo. and Ruth Hartford of Albion; his sisters-in-law, Gretchen Landen of Albion and Nancy Landen of Newman Grove; his brothers-in-law, Don Fisher with wife, Alyce, of Genoa, Lanny Fisher with wife, Nancy, of Duncan; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 69 years, Dorothy, on March 23, 2014; his brothers, Jack and Leland; an infant sister, Colleen; his sisters, Marion Landen and Patricia Goad; and his brothers-in-law, Bud Goad, Jack Bailey and Bob Hartford.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice, with Pastor Greg Gabriel officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday in the church chapel. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice and for one hour preceding the services on Wednesday at the church.
