Thomas 'Tom' O. Miller
Thomas “Tom” O. Miller, 70, of DeWitt, died on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018 at his home, following a battle with cancer. He was born on March 12, 1947 at St. Paul and graduated from Beatrice High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He married Janice Badman on Feb. 15, 1969 and they later divorced. He married Susan Smith Rentschler on Sept. 20, 1996 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Beatrice. He was a supervisor of the tool and die department at Petersen Manufacturing in DeWitt until his retirement and was known for being a jack of all trades. He was a member of the Hawes-Wood American Legion post 212 of DeWitt, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Vietnam Veterans of America and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed his grandchildren and his great-granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife, Susie Miller of DeWitt; two sons, Kevin Miller of Beatrice and Troy (Carol) Miller of Wilber; one daughter, Laurie (Tony) Clower of Euless, Texas; his step-son, Dave (Deanna) Rentschler of DeWitt; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Rick (Billie) Miller of Beatrice; two sisters, Noreen “Billie” Malchow of Missouri and Denise Miller of Beatrice; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maxine Nowak Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church of DeWitt, with Pastor Sean Koos officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery of DeWitt, with military rites conducted by Hawes-Wood American Legion post 212 of DeWitt. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
A memorial has been established to the family's choice. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from 5 p.m. on Monday until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and then for one hour preceding the service at the church on Wednesday.
