Vernice E. Griffeth
Vernice E. (Diekmann) Griffeth, 90 years of age, of Beatrice passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017 at the Monarch in Lincoln. She was born on Dec. 22, 1926 northeast of Plymouth to Herman and Louise (Hueske) Diekmann. Vernice was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Plymouth. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1945. Vernice worked at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln before marrying Lewis Griffeth in the fall of 1946 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Wymore. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren. Vernice was a member of the Dorcas Society, LWML and Social Club. Vernice also enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing, baking and cooking. She was a cook at the PEO Home for more than 20 years.
Vernice is survived by three sons, Gary of Lincoln, Gene of Beatrice and Jody with wife, Melony, of Dallas, Texas; daughter-in-law, Renee Griffeth; nine grandchildren, Heidi Weinert with husband, Greg, Dr. Angie Fisher with husband, Jason, Jill Wenzl with husband, Bill, Kristal Shestak with husband, Kip, Jenny Griffeth, Tiffany Griffeth, Brett Griffeth with wife, Jennie, Jared Griffeth and Matthew Griffeth; five step-grandchildren, Josh, Jordan, Justin, Ayden and Ava; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Verlene VanLaningham of Beatrice and Leola Batterman of Salina, Kan.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ricky; six brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beatrice, with the Rev. Dr. Dirk Reek officiating. Interment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery east of Plymouth. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Monday in the church basement. Visitation will be held from noon to 8 p.m., with family greeting friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017 at Harman-Wright Mortuary in Beatrice. The body will also lie in state for one hour preceding services on Monday. Memorials are suggested to the American Breast Cancer Foundation in care of the mortuary.
