Viola M. Poppen
Viola M. (Feit) Poppen, 95, of Beatrice passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital on Nov. 28, 2017. She was born March 24, 1922 at rural Blue Springs to Arthur W. and Clara E. (Witzenberg) Morris. She grew up on a farm west of Blue Springs and attended rural School District 23. Viola graduated from Beatrice High School in 1940. After graduation, she taught in rural schools for several years. On June 1, 1943, she married John M. Feit and they farmed south of Beatrice and later moved to Blue Springs.
Two sons were born to this union, Robert John Feit and Allan Duane Feit. Her husband, John, passed away on April 23, 1976. On April 30, 1994, she married Alfred Poppen at the Wymore Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Joe Barr officiating. Alfred passed away July 31, 2007.
Viola was a member of the Wymore Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder, church treasurer, Sunday school teacher, choir member and served on several church committees. She was the site manager for the senior diners at the Wymore Legion, a member of the Wymore American Legion Auxiliary, Blue Springs Fire Bells, Beacon Mariners, a Cub Scout leader and was part of several card clubs. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included crocheting, crafts and flowers.
Survivors include her son, Robert Feit (Mary) of Lincoln; her daughter-in-law, Chris Feit of Barnston; a step-daughter, Reva Creamer (Larry) of Lenexa, Kan.; her grandchildren, Brenda Jensen of Lincoln, Mark Feit (Bailey) of Lincoln and John Feit (Amelia) of Odell; her step-grandchildren, Richard Creamer (Jena) of Golden, Colo. and Rodney Creamer of Kansas City, Mo.; her great-grandchildren, including Arin and Hunter Pitt of Lincoln; as well as several step-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. One sister-in-law, Ruby Morris of Blue Springs, also survives.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents and husbands; her son, Allan Feit; two brothers, Elwin and Leland Morris; her sister, Elinor Petersen; and her sister-in-law, Lucille Morris.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Wymore Presbyterian Church, with the the Rev. James McNeil officiating. Burial will be at the Blue Springs Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Laughlin Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore from 1-8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017 and for one hour preceding the service at the church.
