A Lincoln woman’s car was destroyed when it caught fire after hitting a deer this week.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and the Odell Fire Department responded to a vehicle on fire at Highway 8 and Southwest 61st Road.

According to a press release from the department, 26-year-old Stephanie C. Wrick, of Lincoln, was driving west on Highway 8 when she struck a deer that was on the road.

Wrick pulled her vehicle over to the side of the road, where it caught fire due to damage from the collision.

Odell Fire Department members extinguished the fire within a couple of minutes. Wrick complained of minor pain but was otherwise not injured. Hwy. 8 was closed to traffic for approximately 45 minutes.

Wrick was wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not a factor in the accident. No citations were issued.
