Break Free

Break Free Board Game

By Spy Code ($19.99)

Who • 2-4 players, ages 6 and up

What • Lock yourselves up in plastic handcuffs and see who can free themselves the fastest.

What we thought • Lock up your kids, lock up your wife, lock up your mother-in-law- and hey, somebody wins. Though this game comes with a lot of plastic parts, it’s cleverly made and the components sparked lots of imaginative “bad guy” play. It comes with four plastic handcuffs you can slip over your wrist or ankles, and 12 unique lock sets/mazes at three difficulty levels. Twist a key into each lock set and try to free yourself (or free your mother-in-law if you’re so inclined). The fastest to break free gets a token with points on it, and the player with the most points at the end wins. There are several different ways to play the game (as many as eight people can play if they partner up and work to free each other) and my kids enjoyed playing alone to see how long it took to free themselves. “This would be a great party game,” said my son, 10. “What kind of party game?” I asked. “A Halloween party. You know, a serial killer locks you up and you have five minutes to get out alive?” he said. Oh, THAT kind of party game. Yikes, kid. (VSH)
