For many years, Beatrice Communications answered the after hours calls for the Board of Public Works. Beatrice Communications took over the dispatch services for the City of Crete on July 1, 2015, creating “Southeast Nebraska Communications.”
With its larger role in dispatching emergency calls, Southeast Nebraska Communications expressed a desire to stop answering the non-emergency after hours calls. On occasion during a power outage with numerous telephone calls coming in at once, the phone lines at the Communication Center would jam.
While having an electrical outage is an inconvenience, it is not a true emergency and Southeast Nebraska Communications does not want to have phone lines being jammed up with a utility issue so that they will be able to respond to the true emergency calls in a timely manner. Upon this request, the Board of Public Works was faced with finding a new company to answer our after hours calls.
After looking at our options, the city entered into a one year contract with Call Management Resources, a company out of Columbus, Ohio. Call Management Resources has been a trusted call center across the country for more than 50 years. If you ever have a need to use our after hours call service, one of Call Management Resources trained operators will be there to answer your call and take down all necessary information to help resolve your issue as quickly and efficiently as possible. Call Management Resources will then contact a city employee, advise them of the issue, and dispatch the appropriate personnel.
The Board of Public Works regular working hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but as we all know, the inconvenience of power outages, water main breaks and sewer back-ups do not always occur during regular business hours.
As scary as change can be, I believe that as long as we have a little patience and work together through this transition, the outcome will be a success. Remember that although your after hours call is not being answered locally, you can be assured that your issue will be taken care of by one of our employees. The city and Board of Public Works employees are here to serve you and keep our community running smoothly.
