Whether you are looking for street closures, job opportunities, or community events, a good place to start is one of the City of Beatrice’s social media accounts, such as Facebook or Twitter. The City strives to keep our citizens informed and up to date about all City projects. Social media is a great way to be connected, however, did you know the City’s website, www.beatrice.ne.gov, is another great source of information?
We recently revised our website, trying to make it more user friendly and easier to navigate. Here are a few helpful tips for finding the information you are looking for. If you are interested in contacting your City Councilman or want to know what is on the agenda for the upcoming City Council meeting, there is a link on the left-hand side of the home page called “City Council”. From this link, you can access agendas, minutes, meeting packets, and even watch the previous City Council meeting. You can also select the “Contact Info” link to find out who your City Councilman is, as well as their contact phone number.
As you may know, the City has several other committees and boards, and their information is also easily accessible. Simply hover over the black “Government” tab and a drop down menu will appear where you will need to select “Appointed Boards”. From there, you can either select the general tab, or a specific board, such as Beatrice Plus, Planning and Zoning, Board of Public Works, or Citizens Advisory Review Committee (CARC). Each committee or board has an individual page, providing information on who serves on the board, as well as agendas and minutes of the meetings.
Another helpful link we provide to our citizens is a complete list of our city codes. The link can be found under the black “Government” tab, select “City Codes Online”. This is an up-to-date searchable page. So if you want to know whether or not your neighbor is allowed to have those chickens in the backyard, this would be a great place to find out. And yes, they are allowed.
There is also a button on the home page called “Transparency”. We are continuing to update this page and one of the newest features we added was a search feature. On this page, you can find anything from our utility rates, to applications, to our financial reports, as well as countless studies that have been conducted in an effort to update our community and make it a place people want to visit or maybe even consider raising a family.
There are countless other items provided on our website, so take a few minutes to peruse through and find out more about your City. If there is something you believe should be included on our website, please feel free to contact my office at (402) 228-5200, and we will be more than happy to get it added.
