Michaela Jones poured in 39 points Saturday in a blowout win over Omaha Roncalli.

Beatrice won the game 69-36 at the Ozone in Beatrice. Jones' 39 points was just two points shy of the school record of 41 set by Tiffany Baehr.

Lady O Coach Dennis Coudeyras said they tried to keep Jones in for as long as they could so she could get the record, but with the game getting out of hand, she was taken out of the game with about four minutes remaining.

"Michaela played really well and really hard like usual," Coudeyras said. "We did leave her in for a little longer than we should have because we thought she might score 41. I apologized to their coaches for that, but we did decide to pull her out. There was four minutes to go and we were ahead by about 40. As far as I'm concerned, I think she does have the record."

Jones also broke the career rebounding record in the first quarter.

"I always look more at how many rebounds she gets rather than her points," Coudeyras said. "Because she's a guard, yet she gets over 10 rebounds per game."

The game was never in doubt as Beatrice jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. They led 35-12 at half time and 52-20 after three quarters before coasting to the 69-36 win.

Once again, it was the Lady O defense that led to many easy baskets for Jones on the offensive end.

"We're now a full-length court team about 90 percent of the time," Coudeyras said. "Playing Crete proved that we have to do that to beat good teams. One thing we do have is quickness. We don't have a lot of size, so we want to make it a full court game."

Jones scored 12 points in the first quarter, seven points in the second quarter, 15 in the third quarter and five in the fourth quarter for her 39 points.

Addie Barnard was the second leading scorer for the Lady O with eight points while Mak Hatcliff had six points and Olivia Aden had five points. Jenna Junker had three points while Carley Leners, Hannah Lytle and Jessica Fujan had two points each.

Beatrice improves to 3-1 on the season and will travel to Hastings on Thursday.

"I'm really proud of how hard these girls play," Coudeyras said. "We have a lot of role players who really play their guts out. We really think we have a chance to be really good."
