The Sterling Lady Jets moved into the MUDECAS B Division Championship with a semifinal win over Pawnee City Friday night.

The game came down to the final few possessions. A steal by Carly Wenzl and a putback basket by Morgan Haner gave the Jets a 36-35 lead with less than a minute remaining in the game.

Sterling then got the ball back and Carly Wenzl was fouled. She made both free throws to put Sterling up 38-35.

In the closing seconds of the game, Pawnee City got a good look at a three pointer, but it fell short of the rim. Wenzl made two more free throws to seal the 40-35 win.

Sterling will now meet Southern in the B Division Championship game at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday at the City Auditorium.

Friday night's game went back and forth the whole game. Sterling got out to an early 6-0 lead and led 8-4 after the first quarter.

Pawnee City started the secodn quarter with a 7-0 run to take a 12-8 lead, but Sterling came right back with a 7-0 run of their own to regain a 15-12 lead.

The two teams exchanged free throws late in the second quarter and Sterling clung to a 17-15 lead at half.

Sterling maintained a 23-19 lead early in the third quarter, but Pawnee City went on an 8-0 run highlighted by three pointers from Krista Menninga and Miranda Branek. That made the score 27-23 Pawnee City.

Sterling got back to within one, but another three pointer by Rebecca Martin gave Pawnee City a 30-26 lead after three quarters.

Sterling's Colby Theis scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to tie the game 30-30.

The two teams traded one point leads five times down the stretch, setting up the dramatic finish.

Sterling was led by Thies' 13 points while Wenzl and Huls had nine points each. Morgan Haner had six points and Sheanna Stolz had three points.

Leading the way for Pawnee City was Eve Beethe and Rebecca Martin with 11 points each while Madison Branek, Krista Menninga and Miranda Branek had three points each. Reagan DeKoning and Austin Branch had two points each.

Pawnee City will now play in a third place game at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday at SCC.

Southern 46, HTRS 45 OT

The Southern Lady Raiders moved into the MUDECAS B Division Final with an overtime win over HTRS Friday night.

Southern defeated HTRS 46-45 in overtime and will now play Sterling at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday at the Beatrice City Auditorium. 

Southern was led by Claire Hookstra's 12 points while Jayme Ullman had 11, Kaylee Klover had eight, Cheyenne Leach had six, Mariah Murphy had four, Madi Zvolanek had two and Kambree Singleton had one.

HTRS was led by Carissa Allen's 16 points while Matilyn Stalder had nine, Camille Svoboda had eight, Jennabella Vasco had five, Bre Reyes had four and Amber Blank had three.

HTRS will now play in a third place game against Pawnee City Saturday at 11:45 a.m. at SCC.
