The Beatrice girls basketball team was able to grit out a win against Norris Tuesday night at the Ozone in Beatrice.

The Lady O defeated the Titans 50-41, improving their record to 9-7 on the season.

The game was tied early in the fourth quarter, but Beatrice's play makers were able to get a lead and then knocked down free throws at the end to get the win.

"I'm very happy with our girls," said Beatrice Coach Dennis Coudeyras. "We played hard and we played smart and were able to get a win against a good team."

Michaela Jones opened the game's scoring with a three point play and Olivia Aden followed it up with a three pointer to make it 6-0.

Norris came right back with a three pointer from Rylie Bryant and a basket from Brianna Stai to make it 6-5.

Addie Barnard connected from three point land and Mak Hatcliff hit a free throw to extend the Lady O lead back to 10-5.

Norris' Valerie Gabel came back with a basket, but Barnard's fast break layup made it 12-7.

Norris' Stai then scored and Maddy Ramsey followed it up with a jumper to get the Titans to within one at 12-11.

A three pointer by Haley Sexton extended the Lady O lead to 15-11, but Michaela Boon answered with a three of her own to make it 15-14. Carley Leners and Nyah Chambers traded baskets to end the first quarter scoring, making it 17-16.

The offense slowed down in the second quarter. Stai opened with a free throw to tie it up, but two straight baskets by Jones gave Beatrice a 21-17 lead. Norris finished the first half scoring with a three pointer from Ramsey and a score in the post by Stai to make it 22-21 Norris at the half.

Leners opened the third quarter with a free throw and Jones followed it up with a basket to give Beatrice a 24-22 lead. Stai's putback basket tied the game back up at 24-24.

A basket by Barnard was answered by Stai's three point play to make it 27-26, Norris. After another basket by Jones, Molly Ramsey and Jones traded three pointers to give Beatrice a 31-30 lead after the third quarter.

Jones opened the fourth quarter with a basket, but Ramsey answered with a three pointer to tie it 33-33. Norris' Brittany Florer then hit a three pointer to give the Titans a 36-33 lead.

A basket by Leners, a three pointer by Barnard and two free throws by Jones gave the Lady O a 40-36 lead. Ramsey cut the deficit to one with a three pointer, but a basket by Leners of an assist from Jones made it 42-39.

Stai scored for the Titans to cut the deficit to one, but that would be the last of Norris' scoring in the game. A basket by Leners, four free throws by Jones and two free throws by Hatcliff gave the Lady O the 50-41 win.

Jones led Beatrice in scoring with 22 points while Barnard had 10 and Leners had nine. Sexton, Hatcliff and Aden had three points each.

"Offensively, they really let us move the ball around," Coudeyras said. "That's what we did and we didn't take bad shots."

Norris was led by Stai's 14 points. Ramsey had 11, Florer and Bryant had three each and Gabel and Kohout had two each.

"We put Carley Leners on Stai and she did a tremendous job on her," Coudeyras said. "She had a heck of a defensive game."

Beatrice improves to 9-7 on the season and will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to Omaha Gross. Norris drops to 6-10 on the season and will host Nebraska City on Friday.
