Beatrice used a smothering defense to pull away from Ralston Saturday afternoon at the Ozone in Beatrice.

The Lady O defeated the Rams 59-14, improving their record to 8-7 on the season.

Beatrice gave up just two points in the first quarter as they motored out to a 15-2 lead. Michaela Jones got the offense kick started when she scored on a baseline out of bounds play. Carley Leners followed that up with a fast break layup to make it 4-0.

After two Ralston free throws, Leners scored again and Addie Barnard knocked down a three pointer to make it 9-2. A basket by Jones followed by two fast break layups from Haley Sexton and Jones made it 15-2 after one quarter.

Ralston opened the second quarter with a basket, but Beatrice answered with a 11-0 run. Five of those points came from the free throw line. Jones had three free throws and Barnard had two free throws.

Jessica Fujan, Barnard and Jones also had two point baskets during the run.

Ralston scored the next four points to make it 26-8, but Beatrice finished the half on a 9-0 run. Jones and Leners started the run with a basket each and Olivia Aden hit two free throws. Jones then finished the run with a three pointer to make it 35-8 at half time.

The second half was much of the same. Beatrice outscored Ralston 16-4 in the third quarter. Jones had seven of those points while Leners had six and Mak Hatcliff had two and Kacie Heidbrink had one point.

With the score 51-12 after three quarters, the Lady O was able to get most of their bench into the game. They held Ralston to two points in the fourth quarter. Hatcliff, Whitney Schwisow, Monica Fujan and Naomi Keehn all had baskets, making the final score 59-14.

Jones led the way for the Lady O with 23 points while Leners had 12 points.

Also scoring for Beatrice was Barnard with seven, Hatcliff with four, Monica Fujan, Jessica Fujan, Sexton, Aden, Schwisow and Keehn with two each and Heidbrink with one.

The Lady O will be in action again Tuesday night when they take on Norris at the Ozone in Beatrice.
