FIRTH — The fourth quarter is obviously Tyson Gordon time.

The 6-foot-3 sophomore guard scored 16 of Omaha Skutt’s 20 points in the final period to help the Class B No. 4 SkyHawks pull out a 58-53 boys basketball road win at No. 7 Norris on Thursday night.

“That’s usually how it’s played out this season for me,” said Gordon, who had just two points in the first three quarters before finishing with a game-high 18.

“We get a lead, then my job is to handle the ball and hit free throws,” added Gordon, who was 10-of-10 at the stripe in the final period. “Luckily I’ve been shooting them well lately.”

Gordon, however, did more than just sink foul shots. He completed a spin move by knocking down an 8-foot jumper from the left side of the lane for a 42-36 Skutt lead with 6:25 left.

He also had a double-pump driving layup midway through the period before getting a steal and a dunk with 2:16 remaining in the game to give the Skyhawks a 50-41 advantage.

“Tyson’s (Gordon) been taking over in the fourth quarter of close games when we’ve needed it,” Skutt coach Kyle Jurgens said after his team’s ninth straight win to improve to 17-3 on the season.

“Teams lay back because he’s so good driving the ball, but when we get a lead and force the defense to extend, he’s also a very good free-throw shooter,” the coach added. “That’s tough to defend.”

Norris (13-8) did get as close as 54-51 with 31.1 seconds left on a three-pointer by Harrison Boe. Gordon, however, buried four free throws in the final 18.2 seconds to ice it.

“He (Gordon) hit two tough shots with a hand in his face, so give him credit, he’s an elite player,” Norris coach Adam Brill said. “We did a good job defensively on him the first three quarters, but we needed to do a better job of on-ball defense in the fourth quarter.”

Both post players made their presence felt. Norris’ 6-6 senior Mike Wardy had 14 points and four blocked shots, with 12 of those points coming in the first half. The final two came on a dunk with 26 seconds left in the second quarter to give Norris a 27-25 lead at the break.

Skutt’s TJ Skradski, a 6-6 junior, finished with 16 points and six rebounds. He was 7-of-9 from the field to lead a 20-of-40 shooting performance by the Skyhawks.

Norris guard Jay Knudsen added 10 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

Norris girls 46, Omaha Skutt 41

Junior guard Maddy Ramsey drained four three-pointers on her way to a game-high 14 points as Norris improved to 9-10 this season. Freshman center Brianna Stai added nine points and sophomore guard Taryn Tracy chipped in seven for the Titans.

Ellie Bassett paced Skutt (9-13) with 11.
