Beatrice suffered a loss to Mount Michael Saturday evening at the Ozone in Beatrice.
The Orangemen fell to the visitors 56-45. It's the third straight loss for Beatrice since opening the season with an upset over Class B No. 8 Columbus.
Beatrice jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first quarter after back-to-back baskets from Dillon Buss and Andrew Mahoney.
Mount Michael connected for a three pointer to break the run, but two more baskets by Buss and Mahony again made it 8-3. Mount Micheal would go on an 8-0 run to end the first quarter, though, making it 11-8.
There was very little scoring in the second quarter. Graham Southwick opened things up with a basket, but that was answered by Mount Michael to make it 13-10.
Buss would account for the rest of Beatrice's scoring in the second quarter with four points. Beatrice's defense held Mount Michael to five points the rest of the half, though to make it 18-14 at the half.
The offense would pick up in the third quarter. Trevor Schmale opened it up with a free throw. After a Mount Michael basket, Buss scored on a baseline out-of-bounds play to cut the deficit to 20-17.
Southwick answered a Mount Michael basket with a pair of free throws. After another Mount Michael basket, Schmale knocked down a three pionter and Buss followed it up with a fast break lay-up. to tie the game 24-24.
Mount Michael regained the lead with a three pointer, but Southwick cut the deficit to one again with a take to the basket. Mount Michael went on an 8-0 run from there to make it 34-26. They would enter the fourth quarter with a 36-28 lead.
Schmale and Mahoney opened the fourth quarter with consecutive three pointers to make it 36-34. Brayden Frerichs then answered a Mount Michael basket with a lay-up, making it 37-36.
Mount Michael pull away from there, though, as they scored 14 straight points to make it 51-36.
Southwick hit three separate three pointers late in the fourth quarter, but Beatrice would be unable to reduce the deficit to less than seven. Mount Michael went on to win 55-45.
Southwick led the Orangemen with 15 points while Buss had 14 points, Mahoney and Schmale had seven points each and Frerichs had two points.
Mount Michael had three freshmen starters score in double figures, including Kaleb Brink with 16, Joe Chouinard with 14 and Brad Bennett with 11. Senior John Hudson was also in double figures with 11.
Beatrice is now 1-3 on the season and will be in action again on Friday when they travel to Kearney Catholic.
