Pawnee City got off to a fast start against Sterling Tuesday night to advance to the semifinals of the MUDECAS B Division .
The third-seeded Indians defeated the sixth-seeded Jets 42-35, meaning Sterling will not win the B Division for the third consecutive year.
The Indians started off hot and led 19-4 after the first quarter. Sterling closed the gap in the second quarter and made it 23-16 at half time.
Sterling continued to cut into that lead in the third quarter, making it 33-31 entering the final quarter.
Pawnee City outscored Sterling 9-4 in the final quarter to get the 42-35 win.
Leading the way for Pawnee City was Andrew Davis with 16 points while Mason Lierz had 10, TJ Mawhiney had eight, Andrew Fortunado had five and Kodenn Koester had three.
Sterling got 10 points each from Calob Dolbow and Ben Hier while Logan Jasa had five, Sam Boldt had three, Trace Dirks, Cameron Vangroningen and Traygan Keeler had two each and Triston Dirks had one.
Pawnee City will now play at 8 p.m. on Thursday against Southern in the semifinals. A win would get them to Saturday's championship game at 5:45 p.m.
Sterling drops to the consolation bracket, where they will play seventh-seeded Lewiston at 1:15 p.m on Saturday.
Southern 54, Lewiston 35
Southern defeated Lewiston Tuesday night to move into the semifinals of the MUDECAS B Division.
The second-seeded Raiders defeated the seventh-seeded Tigers 54-35. They will now play Pawnee City at 8 p.m. on Thursday in the semifinals at SCC.
Southern jumped out to a 15-7 lead in the first quarter, but Lewiston took a 28-26 lead into the locker room at half time.
Southern dominated the third quarter 12-3 to lead 38-31 entering the fourth quarter, where they dominated again 16-4 to get the 54-35 win.
Trevin Saathoff led Southern with 20 points while Drake Adams had 13, Jacob Shepardson had seven, Nick Lyons had five and Payton Salts, Carson Borzekofski and Braden Klover had there each.
Lewiston was led by Trayton Hippen's 13 points while Holden Christen had 12 points, Daniel Gonzalez had six points and Ryan Hunt had four points.
Lewiston falls to the consolation bracket where they will play Sterling at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday at SCC.
Exeter-Milligan 58, Meridian 29
Exeter-Milligan moved into the semifinals of the B Division with a win over Meridian Tuesday night.
The top-seeded Timberwolves beat the eighth-seeded Mustangs 58-29. They will now play a semifinal game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night against the winner of Tuesday’s late game between HTRS and Johnson County Central.
Exeter-Milligan jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first quarter and extended that lead to 21-12 at half time.
They outscored Meridian 20-6 in the third quarter to open a 41-18 lead, allowing them to coast to the 58-29 win.
Exeter-Milligan was led by Patrick Murphy’s 19 points while Eric Olson had 14 points, Max Zeleny had nine points, Spencer Pribyl had eight points, Seth Maxon has four points and Trever Zelenka and Johnny Babula had two points each.
Meridian was led by Tybor Smith’s 13 points while Garrett Klipp had 10, Seth Noel had four and Mario Garcia had two.
With the loss, Meridian falls to the consolation bracket and will play at 11:45 a.m. Saturday against the loser of Tuesday’s late game between HTRS and JCC.
