The Southeast Community College women's basketball team won the Region 9 Championship on Monday.
And it wasn't even close.
For the second time in one week, the Lady Storm dismantled their rivals from Central Community College. They defeated them 83-57 in the regional final Monday at the Truman Center in Beatrice.
Last week, they defeated Central 92-60 in the regular season finale -- also at the Truman Center.
SCC jumped out to a 21-9 lead in the first quarter and never let up. They added to that lead in the second quarter and had a 47-23 lead at half time.
The lady Storm maintained a 66-41 lead after three quarters, allowing them to coast to the 83-57 win.
SCC won the game easily despite shooting just 3 of 21 from the three point line, which was a key ingredient in their previous win over Central. They were 14 of 16 from the free throw line and out-rebounded Central 53-43.
Central was just 4 of 24 from the three point line and 11 of 21 at the free throw line. The SCC defense held them to just 30 percent shooting from the field.
SCC had three players score in double figures. Sebit Gatluak led the way with 15 points while Erika Goracke and DeAsia Walker had 14 points each.
SCC's other two starters, Madison Hajek and Marcia Hawkins had nine points each.
Hawkins and Walker had 13 and 12 rebounds respectively for the Lady Storm.
Off the bench, Morgan Frauendorfer and Kaitlyn Harrison had eight points each while Sierra Leeper had four points and Emily Zvolanek had two points.
With the win, SCC improves to 12-18 on the season. On Saturady, they will travel to Ironwood, Michigan to play Gogebic in a district championship game at 4 p.m.
