Former Beatrice High School football player Garrett Bruhn is just a couple wins away from his second consecutive national championship.
North Dakota State -- the No. 1 team in the FCS and defending national champion -- will host Georgia Southern Friday night in a subdivision semifinal.
The Bison beat Wofford 14-7 last week to move onto the semifinals. Bruhn was held without a catch in that game, but in the previous game against San Diego State, the tight end had two catches for 21 yards and two touchdowns.
On the season, the 6-1, 241-pound senior has three catches for 44 yards.
Jesse Hinz is another former Beatrice player who now plays for the Bison, but has missed the entire season due to injury.
The top-seeded Bison are 12-1 on the season with that one loss coming against Indian State on Oct. 13. If North Dakota State wins against Georgia Southern Friday night, they will advance to play the winner of Sam Houston State and second-seeded Eastern Washington on Jan. 5 for the National Championship.
Georgia Southern is 10-3 on the season and entered the playoffs as the fifth seed. The game will be televised on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. Friday.
