An extra gear, maybe hidden horsepower, whatever, Logan Kreizel found it and scored three quick touchdowns to help Lincoln Lutheran.

Kreizel caught touchdowns passes of 38, 48 and 85 yards from quarterback Cole Schaedel to spark the Warriors to a 35-20 victory over No. 7 Freeman on Friday at Seacrest Field.

"We knew they were good and big and fast and if we did what we practiced, then we'd have a chance to break some big plays," said Kreizel, who caught five passes for 187 yards, while Schaedel threw for 276 yards on 13 completions.

Lutheran coach Greg Nelson explained that Kreizel has some secret speed, of sorts.

"People say he looks good but maybe doesn't show top speed," said Nelson, whose team improved to 5-1. "Tonight, he caught a couple and just hit the gas and ran away from a couple of guys. I think he just believes he can break away."

The Warriors tacked on a 63-yard punt return for a touchdown by Colby Bliss in the third quarter and a 20-yard run by Sam Rathe in the fourth quarter. Rathe finished with 94 yard rushing.

"We really came out fast and looking smart and then mind of sputtered in the second quarter," said Nelson. "Penalties, some missed plays and I was trying everything in the playbook and nothing worked."

Lutheran saw a 10-play drive stall at the Freeman 39-yard line after suffering through three penalties for a total of 51 yards on the drive.

"We just cleaned up our game in the second half and played well considering how hard Freeman came back at us," he said.

Freeman counted on two touchdown runs by Lane Cacek and a 21-yard scoring run by Tyler Adams.

"We played pretty good on defense and ran some good blitzes in the second half," said Kreizel, who plays safety on defense. "Guys were really moving fast and executing everything we practiced. Then, we ran a safety blitz and that really pumped me up."

Lutheran has two games remaining before the playoffs. The Warriors face Elmwood-Murdock and Yutan. "There are so many things to clean up on both sides of the ball, but this team is seeing the results of their effort right now," Nelson said.
