YORK -- It was a tough day for the Beatrice boys golf team on Thursday at the York Invite.
The Orangemen finished 10th with a team score of 365. York won the meet with a 306 while Aurora finished second with a 338 and Lincoln Pius X finished third with a 350.
Beatrice coach Dick Stuart said it wasn't a good day for his squad.
"It was a day when nobody played as well as they had previously played this year," Stuart said. "We were in the middle of the pack after nine, but we let some bad thoughts hamper our play. We had way too many big numbers."
Graham Southwick was Beatrice's top finisher with an 86. which put him in 18th place individually. Andrew Paquette had an 88, Caleb MacKernan had a 94, Trenton Jurgens had a 97 and Kaden Strubel had a 101.
"We now have to go back to the drawing board and find out who wants to buckle down and work hard so this does not happen again," Stuart said. "I know what we are capable of and hopefully this will be a good wake-up call for our team. We are still young and knew we were going to have some growing pains."
The Beatrice golfers will be in action again on Thursday when they travel to the Fairbury Invite. They will then host the Beatrice Invite on April 24.
The Norris golfers finished fourth at the York Invite with a score of 356. Grant Oden finished 12th with a score of 81.
Other Norris scores included Logan Zimmer with an 89, Tristan Bade with a 90, Carson Ellebrake with a 96 and Ty Hays with a 100.
Fairbury finished with a team score of 402. Robby Meyer had a 90, Justin Peterson had a 92, Anthony Moyer had a 107, Tanner Novotny had a 113 and Dustin Petersen had a 121.
