LINCOLN -- The Beatrice girls golf team finished 10th in a mostly Class A field Thursday at the Lincoln Invite.
Beatrice's team score of 410 was their lowest score of the year.
"We were able to shoot our best team score and we also shot our best nine hole score of the year," said Beatrice Coach Dick Stuart. "Our girls have been working hard to get their scores in the forties and three of them did that on one of their nines."
Stuart said another goal is to get their scores into the 90's and Mackenzie Barnard was able to do that with a career low 97. She tied for 10th in the mostly Class A field.
Sydney Southwick shot her second consecutive 100 and Payton Neunaber shot a 103.
"It's only a matter of time before Sydney is in the 90s," Stuart said. "Payton is also knocking on the door."
Blake Trusty and Abby Jones rounded out Beatrice's lineup with scores of 110 and 113 respectively.
"Blake improved four shots on her back nine and Abby improved seven shots," Stuart said. "We still know we can improve on different aspects of each of their games. The nice thing about today was we had no scores on a hole greater than seven on the back nine."
Lincoln Southwest was the team champion with a score of 321 while Elkhorn South was right behind them with a 322. The individual champion was Elkhorn South's Megan Whitaker with a 75.
Beatrice will be in action again on Monday when they travel to the Fairbury Invite. They will follow that up with the Lincoln Pius X Invite on Thursday and the Crete Invite on Friday.
