Olivia Aden broke a 10-10 tie with a walk-off two run home run in the seventh inning against Norris Thursday night at Hannibal Park in Beatrice.
Beatrice defeated the Lady Titans 12-10. It was the second win of the night for Beatrice. They defeated Southern 14-2 in three innings earlier in the evening.
Against Norris, Beatrice once again got off to a good start when Addison Barnard connected for a lead off solo home run to give the Lady O a 1-0 lead. It was Barnard's third home run of the day. She homered twice against Southern.
Later in the first inning, Ashton Sandman got another rally started when she singled in front of Mikayla Bletscher's two-run home run, which made it 3-0.
Beatrice added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning. Sandman got things going again with a single and Bletscher followed that up with a double to put runners at second and third.
A single by Jaci Berke scored both runners, making it 5-0.
Norris' offense would explode, though, for nine runs in the top of the fourth.
Olivia Ozenbaugh got it started with a lead off double and she scored on Molly Vander Hamm's RBI double to make it 5-1.
A single by Madi Davis put runners at the corners and a single by Ana Krueger scored a run, making it 5-2. Taylor McMurray's RBI double made it 5-3 and Kenzie Roy followed that up with a two-RBI double to tie the game 5-5.
A walk to Taryn Tracy put runners at first and third and Carli Kohout then reached on an error, which scored two runs, making it 7-5 in favor of Norris.
Lindsey Pressler then singled before the first out of the inning was finally recorded. A one out walk to Vander Hamm loaded the bases with one out.
The Lady O then recorded the second out and were looking to get out of the inning with no further damage being done, but back-to-back RBI singles by Krueger and McMurray extended the Norris lead to 9-5.
Beatrice would get three of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth. Aden singled and Sandman was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with one out.
With two outs, Arial Eggert's RBI double made it 9-6 and Berke's two-RBI single made it 9-8.
Beatrice was then able to re-take the lead in the fifth inning. Hannah Lytle led off with a walk and Barnard doubled to put runners at second and third. Aden's sacrifice fly made it 9-9.
With two outs, Bletscher doubled to bring in the go-ahead run.
Norris was able to get it tied in the sixth inning. Krueger led off with a single and with two outs, Tracy reached on an error, which allowed a run to score, making it 10-10.
That set up a dramatic seventh inning. With one out, Barnard singled, which set up Aden's walk-off two-run home run, giving Beatrice the 12-10 win.
With the two wins Thursday night, Beatrice is 2-0 on the season. They travel to Hastings on Saturday for a triangular with Hastings and Gretna.
Norris (1-1) will travel to a McCook dual on Monday where they will play McCook and North Platte.
Southern (0-2) will travel to Aquinas Catholic on Saturday.
Fairbury takes down Freeman
The Fairbury softball team opened their season with a 9-0 win over Freeman.
Fairbury scored a run in the first inning, three runs in the fourth inning, a run in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth inning.
Fairbury had 13 hits in the game compared to Freeman's two hits.
Delaney Miller got the win for Fairbury, pitching six innings and striking out six.
Marah Shumard had three hits, three runs and an RBI. Cora DeBoer had three hits, a run and two RBI's. Destini Warnke had three hits and an RBI. Sydney Miller had two hits and two RBI's. Sarah McCown and Sydney Miller had two hits each while Claire Shumard and Macy Ohlde also had a hit each.
Freeman's two hits came from Felisha Moore and Kaitlyn Otto.
Fairbury (1-0) will be in action again on Tuesday when they host Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan. Freeman (0-1) will travel to Friend on Tuesday.
Wilber-Clatonia opens with a win
Wilber-Clatonia earned an 8-3 win over Aquinas Thursday night in their season opener.
The Lady Wolverines scored single runs in both the second and third innings before scoring two runs in each of the next three innings.
Aquinas scored a run in the fifth inning and two more runs in the sixth inning.
The Lady Wolverines (1-0) will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to the Milford Invite.
