The Beatrice coops swimming and diving teams held their final home meet of the year on Tuesday.
The girls team defeated Bronwnell/Concordia/Mercy/Roncalli 85-78 at the Beatrice YMCA while the boys team lost 85-71.
Beatrice coach Marian Wallen said they have finished with their heaviest training of the season and are now tapering down for the state meet next week.
"Tonight’s meet was a chance for the swimmers to let their hair down a bit and swim some events that maybe they have never swam before," Wallen said.
It was also the final home meet for several seniors. The coop team has swimmers from Beatrice, Norris, Fairbury and Freeman High Schools.
"This team has a lot of camaraderie, having four high schools on one team," Wallen said. "I can’t say enough about this team and the way they motivate and encourage their teammates. This is a special class of seniors and I can’t thank them enough for what they have accomplished over the past four years."
First place finishes for Beatrice included the girls 200-medley relay team of Maddy Wagner, Crystal Craft, Mikwena Lierman and Mikasa Lierman as well as the boys 200-medley relay team of Erik Holloway, Matthew Griffeth, Joe Wright and Aiden Morrow. Also finishing first was the girls 200-freestyle relay team of Mikasa Lierman, Crystal Craft, Maddy Wagner and Mikwena Lierman.
Individual first place finishers include Mikwena Lierman in the 50-freestyle and 100-butterfly; Maddy Wagner in the 500-freestyle, Colton Starck in the 100-butterfly, Elli Lenners in the 100-backstroke and Crystal Craft in the 100-breaststroke.
Personal best swims included Colton Starck in the 200 freestyle; RJ Suey in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and the 100 freestyle; Lauren Havlat in the 200 Individual Medley; Faith Kelly in the 50 freestyle; Sada Ahlman in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle; Tyler Rice in the 50 freestyle;
Other personal best times include Blaine Kujath in the 50 freestyle; Noah Bratt in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle; Meg Rhodes in the 100 freestyle; Emma Oliver in the 100 freestyle; Mikasa Lierman in the 100 butterfly; Nick Witulski in the 100 freestyle; Lauren Behn in the 500 freestyle; Joe Wright in the 500 freestyle; Erik Holloway in the 100 freestyle.
Wallen said they always like to be competitive with their opponents and she feels they accomplished that.
"And we came away with a lot of swimmers with personal best performances and a win for the girls," Wallen said. "Brownell brought some talented swimmers. The weather also caused us to cut the meet short, without doing diving, so we lost out on those points. We are coming to the end of the season and everyone wants to race and do well. For the most part we did that tonight."
Beatrice will have one final meet before state, which will be the River Cities Conference Meet at Ralston on Saturday. Diving will start at 7:30 a.m. with swimming to follow at 10:30 a.m.
"We’re battling a little illness like many teams right now," Wallen said. "But mentally, I think the swimmers were there and physically too. They are all ready to head to the conference meet this weekend, which will be our last meet before state. Many of them are striving to achieve their goals of making the state cut."
