AURORA --The Beatrice cross country teams traveled to the Aurora Invite on Friday.
The girls team finished fifth out of 12 teams while the boys team finished nine out of 12 teams.
Beatrice coach Lyle Claussen said the Aurora Invite is one of the best team and individual competitions in the state.
"It has a tradition of having several of the top ranked teams in the state compete," Claussen said. "Even though we were expecting this level of competition we had one of our more difficult training weeks of the year. We told our teams that the meets leading up to the conference and district meets was an opportunity to see where we are at."
The Lady O was led by Jamsion Theye, who finished sixth and Veronica Pinkerton who finished 14th. Trinity Eichenberger finished 22nd, Josie Guernsey finished 25th, Linda Humble finished 28th and Abby Ware finished 44th. There was a total of 95 girls in the race.
"Jamison ran extremely well throughout the entire race," Claussen said. "She was toward the front once the lead group started to pull away and continued to hang close the the leaders. Veronica and Josie provided the team with their usual solid performance and both will continue to improve and have a break out race in the next couple of weeks."
The boys team was led by Brayden Frerichs who finished sixth while Trevor Smith finished 44th, Noah Hagemeier finished 50th, Evan Oltmans finished 52nd, Collin Hartig finished 71st and Adam Tjeerdsma finished 84th. There was a total of 222 boys in the race.
"Brayden was running 14th with a thousand meters to go and by finishing sixth, he showed his tenacity to continue to race hard until the end," Claussen said. "It also shows that he is getting stronger over the last part of the race. Trevor ran much stronger than the week before and he is starting to also get stronger. Noah and Evan both ran solid races."
The Beatrice cross country teams will be in action again when they travel to the Waverly Invite on Friday.
