HASTINGS -- The Fairbury softball team was eliminated from the Class C State Tournament on Thursday.
The Lady Jeffs were able to win their first elimination game over Chadron 10-8 in eight innings, but fell in their second elimination game to Arlington 2-1.
Against Chadron, the game was tied 2-2 after the first inning and Chadron led 4-3 after three innings. They continued to trade leads throughout, but the game was tied 7-7 after seven innings.
Fairbury plated three runs in the eighth inning and held Chadron to just one run in the bottom of the eighth, preserving the win.
Sarah McCown had two hits, including a home run while Cora DeBoer and Marah Shumard had two singles each. Shumard also had two runs and an RBI.
Destini Warnke had a double, Jaelle Johnson had a double and Macy Ohlde had a double.
Delane Miller pitched 6.1 innings, giving up six runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out eight and walking two. Ohlde pitched 1.2 innings and gave up a run on two hits.
The Jeffs couldn't get much offense going in a 2-1 loss to Arlington. The Lady Jeffs finish the season with a 25-10 record.
Arlington will now play Malcolm in an elimination game on Friday. The winner of that game will play Bishop Neumann in the championship and will have to beat them twice.
