The Beatrice volleyball team faced a stiff test at home Tuesday night against Class C1 No. 2 ranked Wahoo.
Wahoo defeated the Lady O in straight sets 25-14, 25-15, 25-12.
In the first set, the Lady Warriors motored out to a 10-3 lead, but kills by Ally Thavenet and Mackenzie Osborne cut the deficit to 10-5.
Later in the set, a kill by Devyn Burroughs cut the deficit to four points at 12-8, but Wahoo scored three straight points to re-extend the lead to 15-8.
Beatrice answered back with three straight points including a kill from Burroughs and a block by Jessica Fujan, making it 15-11.
Wahoo scored three straight points to make it 18-11 and forced a Beatrice timeout. Out of the timeout, they scored three more straight points to make it 21-11 and would coast to the 25-14 win from there.
Wahoo scored the first four points of the second set, but a kill by Burroughs ignited a 4-0 run for the Lady O, tying the game.
The game remained close and with the score at 9-8 in favor of Wahoo, Beatrice would rattle off three straight points to take an 11-9 lead. Thavenet and Monica Fujan had kills during the run while Ava Lovitt had an ace serve.
Wahoo scored six of the next seven points to take a 15-12 lead. A kill by Burroughs ended the run, but Wahoo answered with three more points to make it 18-13 and force a Beatrice timeout.
They scored five straight points out of the timeout to make it 23-13 before eventually winning 25-15.
Wahoo jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the third set. A kill by Thavenet and an ace serve by Haley Sexton made it 7-3. Mariah Allen and Monica Fujan answered a Wahoo point with a block to make it 8-4.
Wahoo scored two straight points, but Beatrice came back with a kill from Monica Fujan and a double block by Monica Fujan and Mackenzie Osborne to make it 10-6.
Wahoo scored six of the next seven points to make it 16-7. Beatrice then scored four points in a row, including kills from Jessica Fujan and Burroughs and two ace serves by Osborne to make it 16-11.
But with the score 17-12, Wahoo scored the next eight points to win the set 25-12 and the match 3-0.
Burroughs led the Lady O offense with six kills while Thavenet and Jessica Fujan had four kills each. Monica Fujan, Kacie Heidbrink, Osborne and Allen had one kill each. Osborne had 12 assists.
Monica Fujan had four blocks while Jessica Fujan had three blocks. Heidbrink, Osborne had Allen had one block each. Sexton had 11 digs.
Wahoo was led Kyla Swanson and Elly Larson, who had 11 kills each. Elle Glock had eight kills and Maddie Larson had seven kills.
Beatrice falls to 12-11 on the season and will be in action again Thursday night when they travel to Nebraska City.
