SEWARD -- The Beatrice softball team couldn't get its offense going against Class B sixth-ranked Seward.

The Lady O fell to Seward 3-1 Thursday night in Seward.

Beatrice could only accumulate six hits in the game and missed out on a few scoring opportunities.

Seward jumped on top in the second inning when three singles led to two runs, making it 2-0 early.

Neither team would score again until the sixth inning when Beatrice's offense finally scratched a run across. With two outs, Whitney Schwisow walked and scored on Carley Leners' RBI double, making it 2-1.

Seward got that run right back in the bottom of the sixth. A single, a ground out and a wild pitch led to the run.

The Lady O offense went down in order in the seventh inning, making the final score 3-1.

Beatrice had two other scoring opportunities in the game. Addison Barnard led off the game with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, but was doubled up at third when another bunt attempt failed.

In the fifth inning, Arial Eggert led off with a triple, but was stranded at third base.

"We didn't execute three bunts, two of which resulted in double plays," said Beatrice coach Dennis Dodge. "That cost us two runs early, which was the difference in the game."

Leners led the offense with a double and a single while Eggert had a triple and Barnard had a double. Adding a single each was Mikayla Bletscher and Jaci Berke.

Bailey Green pitched all six innings and gave up three earned runs on eight hits while striking out one.

"Bailey pitched a great game and catcher Lexi Schwartz had some great throws to second," Dodge said. "The defense was also really solid. Seward had two blooper hits that led to two runs."

Beatrice falls to 7-10 on the season and will be in action again Saturday when they travel to the Columbus Tournament.
